Family Assistance Dogs - Supporting Children, Supporting Families - Project
Project overview
The five year Supporting Children, Supporting Families project trains, places and supports 75 assistance dogs with families across Northern Ireland who have a child aged 11 or under with autism or who uses a wheelchair. The dogs are trained to encourage independence, safety, confidence and well-being by carrying out tasks including picking up items and opening and closing doors. The project includes group trips, a support helpline, training sessions and animal first aid.
