North East LEP is made up of County Durham, Northumberland and Tyne and Wear. The area will benefit from £18,500,000 of Building Better Opportunities funding.
Health inequalities are particularly acute in the North East Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) area, with 28.1 per cent of economic inactivity attributable to long term sickness against 21.5 per cent nationally (Office for National Statistics Annual Population Survey, January 2014-December 2014).
Bridge Project
This project provides holistic support for people in Northumberland who are furthest from the job market. While the main focus is on tackling multiple barriers to employment, participants will also receive support to tackle barriers relating to health, financial inclusion and digital inclusion.

Wise Steps (Building Better Opportunities for Tyne & Wear)
This project supports people in Tyne and Wear who are facing multiple barriers to employment. While the focus will be on multiple barriers to employment, individuals will also be helped to tackle financial inclusion, and digital inclusion, which are also areas of high concern in Tyne and Wear.
Moving on Tyne and Wear
This project supports people in Tyne and Wear whose primary barrier to employment is a health issue or complex needs. The programme will make lasting and positive change to the lives of 1,620 people in Tyne & Wear. Those taking part benefit from intensive one-to-one encouragement and support to address health issues and work towards goals, alongside five innovative projects testing new approaches to improving employability for specific participant groups.
