National Lottery boost for Dundee Carers Centre
More support is being made available to people in Dundee who are caring for a loved one as the Dundee Carers Centre today (TUESDAY 24 SEPTEMBER) receives over £320,000 of National Lottery funding.
Thanks to the award of £326,563 from The National Lottery Community Fund, the Centre will support 500 carers across the city by running support groups, building social networks and helping to breakdown feelings of isolation.
Lucinda Godfrey, CEO, Dundee Carers Centre, said: “We are grateful that The National Lottery Community Fund is supporting this work and very excited by the possibilities of what it can achieve. At the Centre we continue to be inspired on a daily basis by carers, young carers and disabled people and the contribution that they all make as part of our organisation and in their communities.
“We believe that this approach will enhance this even further enabling us all to learn together, supporting change for individuals, families, services and communities.”
Tracey, 44, from Dundee, who has been a carer for ten years, said: “As a carer, being involved in the design of the new project didn’t just give me the chance to give something back to the Centre, it gave me the confidence to speak up for myself and for what is right. I’m so happy The National Lottery Community Fund has funded this new project as it will help so many other carers like me.”
Announcing the funding, Maureen McGinn, The National Lottery Community Fund Scotland Chair, said: “I am delighted to announce this National Lottery investment in Dundee so that 500 carers have access to both practical and emotional support over the next three years. This is what they told us they needed to help them in their caring roles.
“As the National Lottery prepares to celebrate its 25th birthday later this year, we are proud to be able to support this great work in Dundee, thanks to the generosity of National Lottery players.”
Last year The National Lottery Community Fund gave out over £48m of National Lottery funding to community projects across Scotland. Over 1130 projects benefitted from this, enabling people and communities to bring their ideas to life. To find out more visit www.TNLCommunityFund.org.uk
