Inclusive Education for Indigenous Minorities in the Indian Himalayas
Inclusive Education for Indigenous Minorities in the Indian Himalayas - Project
Project overview
Nomadic and pastoral communities in remote, high altitude villages of the Himalayas are amongst the most disadvantaged in India. They suffer due to their geographical isolation, are culturally alienated and lack access to health, education and sanitation. Literacy rates are very low as in some areas only two per cent of women can read. On average seven per cent of villages have access to schools but education standards are low and curricula irrelevant to children's needs.
