The National Lottery Community Fund welcomes His Majesty The King’s Speech and Government’s focus on devolving more power to local communities and building an environmentally regenerative future
Responding to His Majesty The King’s Speech, David Knott, Chief Executive of The National Lottery Community Fund, said: “As the largest community funder in the UK, we welcome the Government’s proposals to devolve more power to local communities. By being embedded in communities across the country, we recognise that every community has different needs. We hear every day about the difference it makes to empower local people to take decisions on what matters most to them, ultimately strengthening society and changing lives.
“We’re pleased to see the Government commit, like us, towards building an environmentally regenerative future. Embracing cleaner power and green energy. Helping our country and communities become sustainable.
“Our strategy, ‘It starts with community’, directs us to supporting what matters most to communities across the UK, listening and responding to them and focusing on enabling bolder change. We know the power in partnership and working with others. There is huge opportunity in the new Government’s focus on renewal. With our expertise and nearly 30 years of experience, we are leading the way in delivering ambitious community-focused solutions and opportunities and working to create healthier, happier lives and a flourishing society for all.”
Our new Corporate Plan sets out our commitment to invest more than 90% of our grants to support at least one of our four community-led missions: to enable communities to: come together; be environmentally sustainable; live healthier lives and support children and young people to thrive.
National Lottery players raise over £30 million a week for good causes across the UK. Thanks to them, last year The National Lottery Community Fund was able to distribute over half a billion pounds (£686.3 million) of life-changing funding to communities.
