International Funding
The National Lottery Community Fund has funded an international programme through a variety of different initiatives since 1997. Our international funding represents around 1-2% of the overall funding that we distribute.
The National Lottery Community Fund’s international funding so far
Between 2009 and March 2015, a programme called International Communities was our main source of funding for projects overseas, with a budget of £80 million.
The programme focused on the causes of poverty and deprivation and bringing about a long-term difference to the lives of some of the most disadvantaged people in the world. The programme outcomes were closely aligned to the Millennium Development Goals, and focussed on primary education, health, access to natural resources, human rights and sustainable livelihoods.
Next steps for international funding
Our international funding is now distributed through the East Africa Disability Fund, enabling disabled people to improve their livelihoods in Tanzania and Uganda. This programme is designed to complement the post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals as well as the Fund’s Strategic Framework
