Walsall community centre one of 230 West Midlands groups to receive share of £7.5 million thanks to National Lottery players
Moxley Community Care is celebrating today after being one of 230 groups in the West Midlands to receive a share of almost £7.5 million. The vital funding has been distributed by The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest funder of community activity in the UK.
The charity has received more than £280,000, which will enable Moxley Community Care to continue its work with almost 300 families in the local community. This National Lottery funding will help people and communities to build back from the pandemic, prosper and thrive.
Led by Moxley People’s Centre, families and vulnerable people living in Walsall will be supported by the group to create new social connections and relationships to tackle loneliness and isolation. The local community will be provided with the opportunity to get involved with a community café, creative arts sessions and parent and child sessions.
Community Project Manager at Moxley Community Care, Rachel Freeth, said: “Moxley Community Care is more than just a community space – it’s a place where families can come together and get the support they need. With the funding we can offer social events for people living with dementia, homework clubs for children and healthy eating sessions for all the family to come along to.
“The pandemic impacted the community in a lot of different ways, and thanks to National Lottery players, we are able to provide access to a space where we can host people from the local area. It’s a space that promotes intergenerational mixing and with this new funding, we can plan more activities that will bring people together after a very isolating year.”
17 charities and community groups across Walsall have been awarded more than £1 million of National Lottery funding in the past quarter*.
Walsall isn’t alone in benefiting from National Lottery funding. Today it was announced that almost £65 million has been distributed to nearly 2,000 community organisations across England in the past three months*.
Claire Jopling, Senior Head of Funding for the Midlands at The National Lottery Community Fund, said: “Thanks to National Lottery players, this vital funding will have a huge impact on people’s lives across the West Midlands. This last year has been incredibly challenging for communities and we applaud the volunteers and groups that have been a lifeline to so many. As we all look to the future, we’re excited to see how local groups will use this funding to further support their communities to prosper and thrive.”
During the pandemic, in 2020 alone, The National Lottery Community Fund distributed almost £1 billion to charities and community organisations across the UK.
